Varanus semiremex (Rusty Monitor)
The rusty monitor (Varanus semiremex ) is a smaller semi aquatic monitor species found from Rockhampton on the coast up into cape York.
This species can be somewhat likened to varanus indicus in the way that it spends allot of time in hollowed out mangroves and foraging for food on the low tides.
Once regarded rare in its range the wild population has started to flourish, however in captivity it is still not a commonly kept species.
The rusty monitor requires an appropriate size enclosure with a temperature gradient of 28’c -35’c and a basking spot of 40’c -60’c.
Also, being this is a semi aquatic species, it will need somewhere to submerge its full body as well as many logs to hide in.
